I Do Dumb Things

I Do Dumb Things

I do lots of dumb things. It’s humbling, exciting and frustrating all at once. My silly ways make me laugh at myself and wonder why I’m this way.

When I was in 12th grade my sister-in-law (or soon-to-be I think) was living with us. I had bleached hair but decided I was going to dye it a dark auburn. HOLY SHIT!! It looked black. We did it at night and I went to school the next day with almost black hair after having bleached hair. I got lots of looks and I couldn’t wait to get home to change it.

So when I got home I went to the drugstore to buy blonde hair dye. Went home, had my sister-in-law Jodi help me apply it and wait to see what happened. Ummmmm, hardly anything!!! Are you kidding me? So I went back to the store and bought the blondest one they had. Went home, applied it, and you guessed it, hardly any difference. What the hell do I do now?

The next day my mother makes an appointment for me at a bad hair place down the street to strip my hair. I go and this Chinese woman puts some sort of horrible cream on my head and it burns like hell and puts me under a heater. It burns and hurts like hell. We’re done. It’s not light enough so I tell her to do it again. We do it again and it’s still not light enough. We do it again and it is finally to my liking, albeit a bit orange.

I have now spent about $50 total on hair dye and getting my hair stripped at the salon.

After two days of washing my hair, which felt like straw, I shaved my head. After all that, I spent $50 on a shaved head.

Recently I’ve gotten into web design. I’ve been trying different web hosts. So far I’ve tried three others besides Godaddy which I started using a couple years ago. I’ve been trying to move this very site to another hosting service cause I find it loads really slowly with Godaddy. So I go through this whole process of moving it but it doesn’t work completely at AN Hosting. I delete everything and move it back. I also have three other domain names stationed at AN Hosting. I am using them as test sites. I love how fast they are there.

This morning I found a hosting service that moves wordpress sites for you. They were eager to sell to me which sort of turned me off but I liked that they would do everything for me so I went ahead with them. They got one of my other, less important sites moved and this is great and all, but in the meantime I read a bunch of horrible reviews of their service.

So what did I do? I deleted and quit everything, including my account with AN Hosting and plan on deleting everything with the other new hosting account that moved my wordpress site for me. And where will I be? Back completely with Godadddy where I started. Have I learned anything? Yes, but I also spent a lot of time and energy to do nothing.

And therefore, I do dumb things. This is one area of my life where I am neurotic and you know what? I’m okay with it.

Note: oh, and now the pics don’t show up on this blog, so I’ll have to figure out why that is.

In the privacy afforded by this AN-hosted, public blog, you need to share with us that Shawn Smucker followed you in your hair-dying craziness. (Or did you follow him? I could believe that’s the case.)

My story was in high school. But then in college, yes we did bleach our hair together, I forgot about that. Several of us on the soccer team I believe. Coach was not amused. I’m sure I led the way there but can’t totally remember. Shawn??
