07 Jul the plane crash in my head
On our way home from the family reunion vacation, my family and I had to fly three legs to get home. On the first one we flew in a smaller plane. I am fine with small planes, I’ve been on smaller. I’m also not really afraid of flying, but since I am an anxious person by nature, I am “aware” of all possibilities of a landing plane getting out of control. I’ve watched the news.
So as we were arriving into Detroit and all half asleep, we began to approach the runway. Before I get into what happened I need to explain that for a long time, in my mind, I think I always forgot the plane had wings to balance it out. It always felt like when we were landing that we just had to land perfectly on those small sets of wheels. Have you ever noticed how small the wheels are for such a big plane? Anyway, recently I thought more about it and realized the wings of the plane will still help with balance in landing.
So as we approach the landing strip, I’m just chilling, hanging out with my son Finlay as we begin to land. We begin to touch down and totally bounce, leaning to left. I turned toward my wife and made what felt to be the strangest fear laden face I’ve ever made. Luckily she didn’t see it. She claims she did but that I just raised my eyebrows or something, but to me, I was expressing the biggest “oh shit we’re going to die” face I’ve ever made. I seriously thought we were going to crash – it was inevitable in my mind.
So as we were driving on land the next day, we stopped at the Coulee Dam to take pictures. I told my wife to take some pictures of what I thought my face looked like from inside my fearful head. The following is the closest to what I felt.
